NCAA Champion Dustin Kilgore will wrestle the final home matches of his storied career on Sunday at the NWCA Duals

The NWCA Regional Duals (aka Mat Mayhem) is coming to the Kent State MAC Center on Sunday, February 17th!  The winner advances to the eight-team championship duals at the University of Minnesota Feb. 22-23rd.   The four teams competing at Kent State on Sunday will be Kent State, #1 Oklahoma State, Northern Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Kent will open against Oklahoma State at 1:00 p.m.  The Cowboys are currently ranked #1(depending on the ranking service, Intermat has Penn State at #1) in the nation, which speaks for itself, particularly this year when you have Penn State, Minnesota, and Iowa all fielding simply outstanding lineups.  For wrestling fans, this is a chance to truly watch some of the very best wrestling in the country- and if has ever been a time where it was apparent that we need to support this sport at all levels- it’s now.  Oklahoma State is lead by the incomparable Jordan Oliver- a former NCAA Champ and 2x finalist who has moved up from 133 to 149 this year without missing a beat. You won’t find a more impressive wrestler on his feet than Oliver- and since he will face a quality opponent from Kent in redshirt freshman Nick Carr, we will truly get to see him display his immense skills. Other hammers from Oklahoma State include #3 Tyler Caldwell, #2 Chris Perry, #3 Alan Gelogaev, #6 Jon Morrison, and #8 Blake Rosholt.  Rosholt matches up with Kent State’s NCAA Champion and #1 ranked Dustin Kilgore, while Russian born Gelogaev is among the most exciting heavyweights you will ever see. There isn’t a team in the country that has a better quartet of wrestlers than Oliver, Caldwell, Gelogaev, and Perry.  All of the above are potential NCAA Champs except for Caldwell- and that’s only because he is in a weight class with David Taylor and Kyle Dake, he’s a former NCAA Finalist (beating Howe and losing to Jordan Burroughs) himself.

The Electrifying Jordan Oliver comes to Kent State's MAC Center on Sunday

Should Kent fall short against Oklahoma State (no shame there) they will wrestle either Wisconsin or Northern Iowa for 3rd at 3:00 p.m.  Currently, Kent is ranked #21 by Intermat, Wisconsin #25 and Northern Iowa #27, so it should make for a very tightly contested dual.

Finally, if you needed another reason to attend these duals, keep in mind that this is the final time that Dustin Kilgore will be competing at the MAC Center.#1 ranked Kilgore has established himself as not only one of the very best collegiate wrestlers in the nation regardless of weight, but also has a world class wrestler and 2016 Olympic hopeful. Kilgore’s relentlessly attacking and punishing style will surely be missed after this year!

Once again, these duals are on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and the Kent State MAC Center.  More information on them can be found here: http://www.kentstatesports.com/sports/wrest/2012-13/releases/NWCA
