Best of the Best: Germaine Lindsey

Best of the Best: Germaine Lindsey

The returning third place state finisher has quietly put together an outstanding season.  While he got off to a slow start, including a lopsided 13-6 loss to Michael Lybarger, Lindsey has been dynamite the second half of the season, including wins over nationally ranked Shawn Harris and Vince Ramos (IL).  This was a very close call, with Bo Touris and Muhammad Abdur-Rahman also meriting consideration.

Victim of the Draw: DeRicheen Dukes, Cincinnati Princeton.

No wrestler in this District is more “snakebitten” than two-time state qualifier DeRicheen Dukes.  #9 Dukes faces one of the state’s top freshman in #5 Pierce Harger in the quarterfinals.  Harger is a solid favorite in this match as he has recent wins over #6 Tommy Pretty and #1 in Division II (Cordell Longstreath).  If he loses that match, he will have the loser of either #3 Ryan Fields or #6 Pretty.  Pretty defeated Dukes 9-0 at SWOWCA.  Ironically, the best thing that could happen to Dukes would be for him to lose his first round match against unranked but tough Graham Campbell.  Should that happen, Dukes would most likely faces unranked freshman Jesse Walker in the “go-to-state” match- a wrestler with 13 losses despite a mediocre schedule.

Toughest Weight: Without question, 119 lbs.

Weakest Weight:  Without question, the weakest of the 56 District Weight Classes I reviewed was the 171 lb. class at this District.  After #3 Gaier and #21 O’Connell, no other wrestler even merited consideration for a top 25 ranking.
