Clark has had excuses all year long. I was talking to some kids, and they said Jamie had a knee bruise, and when Saluppo hurt his knee against Stephans, Saluppos knee was actually worse the Clarks. However Jamie took 1 month off for that, and Saluppo was wrestling 2 days later. He also had the longest sickness ever after that, add another month! comes back loses 2 times in 2 weeks, then wrestles the subpar weight class since everyone ran from him. I believe if Lawerence was able to wrestle, he beats Clark this year.

It might be easier if we focus on who had the best year versus top wrestlers. Because while people like Clark didn't do anything this year because of injury or what have you, based on his accomplishments, you cannot list him as a top 10. so that being said, people who had the best season, based on performance & schedule;

1) logan stieber
2) Cam tessari won ironman and beat everyone he wrestled. probably the most underrated wrestler
3) Bo Jordan beat jamie clark #1 in the country and beat nate skonieski
4) Johnni DiJulius only loss was to logan, giving him his second closest high school match of his career, beat at least 6 nationally ranked kids
5) Ty Mitch for his ow state performance
6) nick sulzer ow ironman
7) nate skonieski had a dream year until semi's of states. won ironman as a sophomore, won cheesehead, won top gun, beating bo jordan, undefeated in a brutal schedule, just came up short at states but had an incredible season.
8) Hunter Stieber only big win of the season was mitch at ironman before losing in the finals
9) demas
10) thomusseit

The big 3 - Clark, phillips, & martinez are amazing talents and are still arguably top 10 or even top 5 wrestlers in ohio, but they did not wrestle anyone this year, so based on that, can't say they had great "years" compared to the list.

I talk to "adults" not "some kids" for information about Clark. Suffering injuries and illness aren't excuses just facts. 1) Was seen by Cleveland Clinic doctors regarding knee who would not release Clark. 2) Went to the hospital twice for the illness. It is your right to dislike the kid or feel he doesn't deserve to be in the top 10. "then wrestles the subpar weight class since everyone ran from him", if they ran, that is their decision not Clark's.

Demas should not be ranked in top 10. Ran from sulzer and still not very dominant at state until finals.

rtm 11 mentioned Jerome Robinson. I believe that he should be included in the group. The kid wins back to back without cutting any weight. I wonder how many state champs can make that claim.

I would have given JRob MOW in D1 at the State tourney, but I believe Sulzer got it due to his undefeated season.

Clark had a down year -- well down year as three-time D1 state champs go. But for the injuries, a little reminiscent of Collin Palmer's senior year. Though Palmer's two losses were of higher quality -- decisions to Alton and Taylor. But both Clark and C. Palmer underwhelmed at the State tourney against inferior competition their senior years.
I think if you asked Tessari's coaches and team mates they will tell you he is definately NOT the number 4 guy on the team and would make the top five of your list.
You are aware of who his teammates are, right?

Demas should be top 5, even if we need to bump Phillips or Thomusseit. Only Stieber and Sulzer (although by the slimmest of margins) had better years than Demas, in my opinion. He destroyed all comers aside from Sulzer (let's not forget who won this matchup in the state finals) and was arguably the most entertaining wrestler I saw all year. Entertainment matters in my top 10, if just a little bit. It's been reported that Demas had the flu at state, which obviously attributed to his lackluster performance. If you put that performance out of your mind, and we should in this instance, he's very close to being at the top of this list. My top five:

1-L. Stieber
2-Sulzer
3-Demas
4-Phillips (We didn't hear much about him all season. I can't recall a big win, but obviously the kid is unreal)
5-Martinez

Good list but Demas should be over Sulzer. Demas beat Sulzer when it counts at state. Also Demas to tOSU which is much better at wrestling than Sulzer to Virginia. College coaches know who is better.

Both are great Universities - you are seriously going to knock where Sulzer chose to go to college? Demas and Sulzer made the best choice for them, I would also bet there were other reasons than wrestling for their choice of university.
.
#7 Jamie Clark- Im just not a big clark fan. I know some people would have him higher but a lot of people felt as if he could of wrestles more than he did this year, and his lackluster performance in the state finals against a guy he should of crushed disappointed me a bit, because his team needed bonus from him.
Come on now. What did Jamie Clark really do this year. He was nowhere remotely close to being dominate! He lost to 2 freshman and wrestled maybe 20 matches. He should definitely not be ahead of Demas or Mitch, and there are probably 10-15 other people that could be ahead of him. No offense to anyone he beat this year, but Fickel is the only one i remember with any national notoriety. Lets not give him props just because he was dominate the past 3 years. He hit his prime and is on the decline.
By seasons end Fickel should not have any National notoriety I think he had at least 8 loses adn Fox from Field should of beat him.

Skonieczny and Everyone knows how to spell it by now and I cant think of anyone who wrestled a tougher schedule and beat more nationally ranked and high state placers than Nate.

hahaha hightower above Demas and Squire???? Are you kidding me. Yes Hightower a 3x champ in D2. Exactly who did he beat to win 3 titles? Squire undefeated freshman D1 champ. Sophmore runner up in D1. Junior year hurt and places 6th after taking on Palmer. Sr year loses 1 match to Alton no. 1 in country. Also wanted to wrestle Hightower in East West match and Hightower declines. Demas 4 time placer. 3 time D1 placer. 2 X D1 champ. Beat Sulzer in D1 last year. No comparison.
Actually, Squire beat Sulzer 2 years ago at 130, it was an OT win. As for Hightower not beating anyone, who has Squire beat? Thats why I have Hightower above him, better credentials, (3xer) and Squire did great this year don't get me wrong, but his best wins were vs Salupo who is good but not great.
This topic is so ridiculous. Who did any of you beat this year? The kids wrestle a certain weight class, if no one is "nationally ranked" how is it their fault? If a kid is injured how is that something they can help? If they are ill, how can they help that? If their weight class lacks "nationally ranked kids" how is that in their control? Last year Logan Steiber had injury that kept him out until shortly before sectionals...how many matches did he have last year - DOES IT MATTER? Does it mean that he is less of a wrestler last year because he didn't have as many matches as someone who wasn't injured? Who did he have in Div 3 that would come close to touching him ~ I say this not to knock Logan but to make a point ~ again stupid to even discuss this stuff. Logan can't help who is in his weight class or division - No different from the rest of the kids. And before ANYONE tries to say I am not recognizing Steiber as a great wrestler, don't go there. I will be the first to say, put Logan Steiber in any division and any weight class and he will come out on top of the podium. One of the greatest wrestlers Ohio has ever seen or will see. Every kid that has been mentioned on the list (even kids who were not on the list or by some opinions don't "deserve" to be on list) know this ANY High School coach and college coaches would love to have them on their roster. It is just getting really old reading all these posts disrespecting ALL of these kids who busted their tails all season long.

This is ridiculous ! Jamie Clark was hurt , thats not an excuse its a condition and a fact. Look who he has beat in his career and the national tournaments he has won. Lawerence can now mysteriously beat Clark now that the match can only be wrestled by a poster!! LOL!!

College coaches know who the better wrestler is? It was documented on another forum that Ohio State was recruiting Sulzer but he went with Virginia. Obviously he wanted to go to a top notch academic school. And Demas ran from Sulzer after losing to him at Ironman at 160. Havent watched many of Demas' matches but after seeing him almost lose his first two matches at the state tournament this year I don't think a match with him and Sulzer would be close.
